VO₂max
Your aerobic ceiling — measured in a ramp test to exhaustion. Plus both thresholds (VT1/VT2) and training zones derived from your metabolism, not from rules of thumb.
Ramp test · approx. 15–20 min
Real VO₂max, FatMax and resting metabolic rate. Hardware and software, designed together.

planned retail price, once. Pro analyzers cost €5,000 and up. *incl. VAT, plus shipping, mask not included
yearly maintenance. No cell swaps, no reference gas.

The film
From the race bike to the first prototype: how OSM1 measures and what's inside. Best with sound on.
The problem
Your watch extrapolates VO₂max from heart rate and pace — an estimate. If you want the real number, you book a sports lab or buy a device built for clinics. OSM1 is the third option.
Three measurements. One device.
Your aerobic ceiling — measured in a ramp test to exhaustion. Plus both thresholds (VT1/VT2) and training zones derived from your metabolism, not from rules of thumb.
Ramp test · approx. 15–20 min
The intensity at which your body burns the most fat. Watch your fuel mix shift from fat to carbs in real time — the foundation for base training and race-day fueling.
Step test · approx. 30 min
How much energy your body burns at rest — measured, not estimated from height and weight. The honest baseline for any nutrition plan, cut or build phase.
Lying down · approx. 30 min incl. settling in
Guided tests
Pick a test — the app builds the protocol around your weight and FTP, guides you stage by stage with clear instructions and sets your smart trainer to the right power automatically. Your results are ready the moment you finish.
Pedal steadily at 190 W, 85–95 rpm.
To exhaustion — VO₂max, thresholds and zones.
approx. 20 min
The same on the treadmill, driven by speed.
approx. 20 min
Finds the power at which you burn the most fat.
approx. 30–40 min
Your fat-burning zone as running pace.
approx. 30–40 min
Lying down and fasted, with time to get used to the mask.
approx. 30 min
How economically you work at a fixed power — ideal for comparisons across the season.

Hardware and software from one team
With traditional analyzers, the fiddling starts after checkout: drivers, export files, spreadsheets. With OSM1, everything comes from us — and fits together the way the best devices do. Plug in, mask on, open the app. It guides you through warm-up, calibration and test protocol, and analyzes everything automatically.
Optical O₂ sensor, NDIR CO₂ and precision flow measurement in one device, barely bigger than a fist.
Detects every breath on the device and normalizes to standard conditions — before a single value reaches the app.
Live values, guided protocols, automatic analysis. For iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows.

No strings attached
Traditional analyzers measure oxygen with an electrochemical cell that consumes itself while measuring. Hence the long warm-up, the reference gas, the annual service. OSM1 measures optically — the sensor doesn’t wear out.
One device, one person: OSM1 is your personal analyzer — as personal as your sports watch.
No battery. On purpose.
OSM1 has no built-in battery. It draws power over USB-C — from the power bank you already own, or from a wall charger. Nothing wears out, nothing needs charging before a test, and it’s never flat on test day. An ordinary 10,000 mAh power bank lasts for dozens of tests — weeks of regular training without recharging. Continuous measurements over several days are possible too. And with no lithium battery inside, shipping is simple too.
That’s all a test takes
USB-C into a power bank or wall charger. The sensor is ready in about two minutes, and the app calibrates automatically against room air.
OSM1 sits right on the mask. No hose, no backpack, no cable to a laptop.
Ramp, step test or resting measurement. Power meters, smart trainers and HR straps connect directly.
VO₂max, thresholds, FatMax and zones — analyzed automatically the moment you finish.
The app
While you ride or run, the app shows exactly what counts: VO₂, RER, fuel mix, heart rate and power — big and calm, even at 180 bpm. The moment you finish, your results are ready: VO₂peak, thresholds, FatMax and every curve.

Not a render
This is the OSM1 prototype we measure with today — printed, soldered and calibrated in our workshop near Hanover, Germany. The Founders Edition gets a refined enclosure; sensors, firmware and app stay the same.

Software
Everything you need for your tests comes with the device — no subscription, no account. Want more convenience? Add OpenSpiro Pro. Entirely optional.
Every measurement is stored locally on your device — not in our cloud. Export everything, anytime, completely and in open formats, with or without a subscription. No lock-in: if you cancel Pro, or if we ever disappear, your data stays usable.
Every sport, the same question — what is your metabolism actually doing right now?
Founders Edition
We’re building the first series of OSM1 in a small run — for athletes who want to be there from day one.
* Mask not included: OSM1 fits Hans Rudolph 7450 V2 series masks, available from medical suppliers in your size. Many athletes already own one.
Shipping planned for 2027. The waitlist is non-binding — you only pay if you actively order once pre-orders open.
Ships within the EU only. Sent from Germany, no customs or import duties.
Join the non-binding waitlist. When pre-orders open, you’ll hear first — before anyone else.
OSM1 measures oxygen, carbon dioxide and breath volume directly — the same principle a sports lab uses, not an estimate. We calibrate volume with a 3-liter calibration syringe. Before shipping, we’ll publish our comparison measurements against established lab equipment — honestly, deviations included.
You do. Measurements are stored locally on your iPhone, iPad or computer and can be fully exported as CSV or JSON at any time — without a subscription or account. OpenSpiro Pro cloud sync is an optional convenience, not a requirement.
OSM1 is compatible with Hans Rudolph 7450 V2 series masks — the widespread standard in performance testing. The mask isn’t included: that way you get exactly your size, and if you already own one, you don’t pay twice. Available from medical suppliers.
Over USB-C — from any standard power bank or USB wall charger. There’s deliberately no built-in battery: nothing ages, there’s nothing to charge before a test, the device stays light, and with a large power bank it can even run for days on end. The power bank goes in your pocket or jersey, the cable runs to OSM1.
No. OSM1 is a personal device for exactly one person — for hygiene reasons, just like your mask. You can of course share your results anytime: anyone can view a shared session, and your coach, training partners and friends can comment with a free account.
OSM1 is screwed together, not glued: for a thorough clean, you open it up and clean the airway. An illustrated guide is included. That’s also why OSM1 is a personal device — sharing it would mean a full clean every time it changes hands.
No. OSM1 is built for sport, training and fitness — not for diagnosing or treating disease.
No. All measurements, analyses and full data export work without a subscription or account. OpenSpiro Pro adds convenience: cloud sync, history, reports and coach features.
iPhone and iPad as well as Mac and Windows. Power meters, smart trainers and heart rate straps connect via Bluetooth or ANT+.
No sensor cells, no calibration gas, no service appointments. OSM1 calibrates itself automatically against room air before every test.
We ship the Founders Edition to all EU countries. Shipping outside the EU, e.g. to Switzerland or the UK, is planned for later series.
No. You’ll get an email as soon as pre-orders open. Waitlist members get first access to the 100 units. You only pay when you order, with a 14-day right of withdrawal.
